NYANGA- Bernard Ngandu of Nyamahungwa Village under Chief Saunyama in Nyanga died on March 11 after alleged excessive consumption of alcohol, The Midweek Watch has learnt.

Manicaland Province Police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said that on March 10 at around 8am the deceased left home in the company of his son Dudzai Ngandu(38) and his son in law, Jasper Nyamunhepa to a local tuck shop owned by his nephew Wonder Kuwenyi (34) to drink beer.

It is alleged that the trio started drinking Ranger beer around 11am and Bernad advised the other two to go home and eat sadza leaving him at the tuck shop since he had no appetite.

At around 2pm the duo came back and found Bernard asleep leaning on the tuck shop walls and they decided to let him sleep and they continued with their drinking spree.

As time went on they tried to wake Bernard up, but he was too drunk and weak to walk and they decided to take him to Kuwenyi’s house which was nearby and made porridge for him, but he did not take much.

Since it was hot they let him sleep outside the house under Kuwenyi’s care.

At Around 2am Kuwenyi heard Bernard singing alone but did not bother checking up on him.

When it started raining at around 3am Kuwenyi decided to carry Bernard inside the house but he found him dead laying on the ground.

Kuwenyi advised the deceased’s wife Crosa Chiburumunda (52) who reported the matter to the police.

The body was taken to Nyanga Hospital for postmortem and no injuries or foul play was found.
