Mvuma-Gibson Chifamba who was employed as a herd man by Vimbainashe Machona of Plot 379 Central Estates in Mvuma has appeared in court for allegedly stealing a heifer from the farm.
The matter happened in October and was reported under RRB 33/10/24 at Mvuma police station.
The suspects have since appeared in court in Gweru twice but the matter was postponed to December 18 for trial.
Fredrick Matsheza stood in for the state.
Circumstances are that on an unknown date Machona’s cattle were grazing in the plot when the accused (Chifamba) allegedly stole the heifer.
It is alleged that the accused drove away from the plot with the herd of cattle in the evening and proceeded to second accused, Johnson Tachi’s farm which is adjacent to the complainant’s and separated the heifer from the others.
He drove the rest of the cattle back to the farm.
It is further alleged that Tachi had earlier phoned his employee Tavonga Mungoni telling him he had bought a beast and Chifamba would bring it in the evening.
The trio slaughtered the heifer that evening and took it to Tachis restaurant in Mvuma Mushayavhudzi Twnship where he is operating the business together with his wife Vongai Ngonidzashe Zunde.
The matter was reported to Mvuma police station leading to the arrest of Chifamba and Tachi on Monday 7 October 2024 around 1pm at latter’s shop.
Police recovered one goat head, one head of cattle and another for a lamb.
They also recovered a cattle hide and Chifamba admitted to have committed the crime.
The case was set for trial at Mvuma Magistrates Cort on Wednesday 9 October but the complainant was not happy with the way the case was being handled and requested that the matter be taken to Gweru.
Case was set for trial the following day in Gweru and the accused were further remanded in custody pending further investigation. The three were later on released on bail on Tuesday 15 October 2024.
