A view from the mango tree-Of the festive season, the precious, pressures and pleasures.

The festive season is a precious part of the year with a lot of pressures and pleasure. It creates a lot of reality and creates some general excitement even in the worst of circumstances even for my friends down in Boterere.

Johannes Mike Mupisa aka Chana CheMasvingo.

Some affluent families will be expecting their loved ones to visit from far away towns and cities with some even flying in and crossing national boundaries. It is the festive season.

For people like Obey the rank marshall and I, vana vekwabamnini our relatives hail from places like Bhonora, Masahwe and Dycrass. My fellow readers do not be misled by Dycrass it is just a place located in the resettlement areas that has nothing to write home about. I doubt if we are going to receive them since even their donkeys are ailing owing to the prolonged El Nino induced famine which has destroyed livestock. It’s a pity this festive season will be a very different one on the negative.

In spite of all these challenges, people will toil to sugarcoat the situation so that families can enjoy. Here at Neshuro and in places like Sarahuro and any other business centre there will be great demand for bread, chicken and pork. Beef? No! The Mwenezi area and Chivi is a disaster. In Mwenezi if you move around you come across carcasses of dead livestock they have now given the name ‘mugombegwa,’ so the majority of people despise beef. There is going to be pressure for meat and MEAT. Yes MEAT, as people meet there is a lot of pressure to meet and mate. It’s the excitement which comes along with festivities. Injivhas are trickling in with their funny accent and words. Mara eish, yooh, muna and others will be topping the chats as they try to identify themselves with the South Africans. It is the pressure of the holidays.

I was just telling my beloved Dorothy that funds permitting I will take her out and make merry. The festive season is really on our doorstep and the pressure is fast growing and some plans really need to be made with great chances of overspending forgetting the bite of January Disease. The precious will be gallivanting playing music topping the chats on car stereos with doors wide open gulping down beer like nobody’s business, braaing and partying. As people celebrate Christmas, the birth of the Holy Son I was expecting some grand celebration characterised by some religious affirmations. Yes some will be worshipping especially the gnostic ascetics while the libertinists will be concentrating on those things pastors and other ‘hypocritical’ men of the cloth so much speak against.

Why would I compromise such a magnificent piece celebrating a wonderful holiday by delving into political matters? I would simply overlook them. The SADC elections this year elicited mixed reactions within the political realm, with turmoil in Mozambique, a leadership transition in Botswana, and a triumph for SWAPO in Namibia. New terminology emerged. I came across a post by Jamwanda ridiculing imperialistic, pessimistic individuals who hoped for SWAPO’s downfall. He branded them as quislings, a term originating from the Norwegian figure Vidkun Quisling, who collaborated with the Nazis during the invasion of Norway in the Second World War. The political arena enriches our vocabulary, recalling the V11s, pivotal to the essence, the removal of the Constitutional Court.

On the captivating stage of soccer, Manchester City experienced a revival with a resounding victory over Nottingham Forest. Their fortunes appeared to be dwindling, but they have reignited joy among their supporters. Manchester United’s recent winning streak was halted by an in-form Arsenal. Meanwhile, Liverpool continues to dominate as the league grows increasingly thrilling. It’s simply a view!!!
