Police in Midlands confirms an attempted murder where a 48 year old man is suspected to be behind the setting on fire of a house where two people were sleeping.
The incident occurred at village Ndava under Chief Ndanga in Shurugwi sometime in November 2024 at around 2330 hours, The Midweek Watch has learnt.
Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson, inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident and said police are looking for Mawere regarding the issue.
“We are keen to interview Thomas Mawere in connection with the case, therefore we are appealing for information concerning his whereabouts.” Mahoko said.
Circumstances are that the suspect Thomas Mawere of Village Magura under Chief Ndanga in Shurugwi was once married to the victim Tendai Mandiziva (43) and they got divorced.
Allegations are that, Tendai Mandiziva was asleep in her bedroom hut together with her daughter aged 15 years. She heard a knock on the door and inquired as to who was knocking.
The suspect identified himself and went on to request Mandiziva to open the door for him. She refused citing that it was late at night.
This did not go down well with the suspect who shouted and threatened her with unspecified action before he walked away.
After about 30 minutes Mandiziva was awakened by her daughter who told her that the roof of their bedroom hut was on fire. She tried to open the door but discovered that it was locked from outside.
The two managed to break the door and dashed out of the burning hut. The roof, walls and property which was in the hut were all destroyed by fire.
