Veteran journalist and media trainer Golden Maunganidze who was the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) regional chairman has stepped down as part of the routine reconfiguration of the governing council.

This follows the highly successful MISA Zimbabwe Chapter AGM held last Friday at Monomotapa Hotel in Harare which saw TellZim editor Passmore Kuzipa taking over as the country’s governing council board chairman.

Maunganidze was the MISA Zimbabwe Chapter governing council board chairman for the past six years.

Jeremias Langa of MISA Mozambique has since taken over from Maunganidze as the new RGC chairman.

“I wish the MISA team all the best as you leap forward with the assignment to be the most formidable shield in defence of expression from moving targets,” said Maunganidze.

The reconfiguration also sees Golden Matonga, MISA Malawi chairperson, replacing Langa as vice chairperson, while Salame Kitomari, MISA Tanzania, retains her position as treasurer.

MISA Zimbabwe chapter chairperson Kuzipa also joins other regional leaders in the RGC.

Maunganidze emphasized the organization’s commitment to smooth transitions and congratulated the new office bearers.

“I look forward to your thoughtful expertise, leadership, and wise counsel to the executive and RGC,” he added.

MISA was launched in September 1992 to promote free, independent, and pluralistic media in eight Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) countries, aligning with the 1991 Windhoek Declaration.

As an ex officio member for one year, Maunganidze said he will remain available to provide guidance and support.
