ZVISHAVANE- FIFA President Gianni Infantino has revealed that the new eight team African Football League will commence on October 20, 2023.
He revealed this during the CAF’s General Assembly in Abidjan today (Thursday July 13 ,2023).
The competition has been drastically scaled down from 24 teams from the original proposal with Dynamos and Caps United intending to be part of the league.
CAF is yet to reveal the participating eight teams for the inaugural season.
Infantino said there is need to invest in African football as well as national teams.
“The league will have eight teams, which will be followed in future with a bigger version. We have to invest in African club football as well as national team football. It is our responsibility, duty and task, and with the work and contribution of all us as a team, we will succeed,” he said.
Currently Africa only has the CAF Champions league and CAF Confederations Cup where clubs meet and the edition of the African League will bring more competition to African Football for its improvement.
