The Kweseka Band from Matabeleland North province made history last weekend by emerging victorious at the Chibuku Road to Fame finals held in Harare.
The group, which specializes in traditional dance, impressed the judges and the crowd with their energetic and captivating performance.
The Cousins (Midlands), Shanty Town (Mashonaland Central), Outlaws (Harare), Fugees Band (Matabeleland South), Pilgrims of Christ (Mashonaland East), Tawedzegwa (Bulawayo), Vibrand Band (Manicaland), Boom Jazz (Mashonaland West) and Panhimbe (Masvingo) were some of the groups that were vying for the top spot at the Glamis Arena.
Out of the seven provincial finalists, Kweseka stood out with their unique blend of traditional and contemporary dance moves. Their performance was a testament to the rich cultural heritage of Zimbabwe, and the crowd could not help but be mesmerized by their energy and passion.
The group received US$15 000 plus a recording contract while Boom Jazz walked away US$10 000 richer and Music to Music smiled all the way to the bank with US$7 000 for landing the third position.
Kweseka’s victory was met with thunderous applause and cheers from the packed audience at the Glamis Arena.
“We are overjoyed and humbled by this achievement. We have worked tirelessly to perfect our craft and this victory is a testament to our dedication and hard work,” said the group’s leader who requested anonymity.
Their victory has also sparked a sense of pride and inspiration among young people in Zimbabwe, showing them that they too can achieve greatness through their talents and passions.
Under the theme “Bviravira, Tshay’iNgoma”, this prestigious talent search is not just a competition but a celebration of music, culture and artistic expression.
The Chibuku brand is more than just a sponsor as it embodies the spirit of community and togetherness through music and dance. The competition allows the brand to engage with consumers nationwide.
