These workshops are specifically targeting wards under the GEF 7 project, which focuses on sustainable land and forest management in learning institutions, The Midweek Watch has learnt.

EMA’s spokesperson, Amkela Sidange, explained that the agency has a “catch them young” program, which was launched in 2011.

“The program aims to grant environmental school clubs in schools, and to provide training for the patrons of these clubs, who are typically teachers.

“The training equips teachers with the skills to run school clubs, organize competitions, debates, quizzes, and art exhibitions,” she said.

EMA in collaboration with Art Galleries have three key objectives, firstly, to build the capacity of teachers to effectively lead and guide environment clubs.

Secondly, to assist schools in registering their environment clubs with EMA.

Finally, to encourage club participation in the GEF 7 environmental competition by achieving these objectives, EMA aims to foster a culture of environmental sustainability in schools.

The Midweek Watch confirmed that by working together, EMA, teachers, and schools can empower a new generation of environmentally conscious students who will drive positive change in their communities and beyond.
