Masvingo-Two men who terrorized villagers in Tokwane Ngundu and Tokwe Mukosi Resettlement areas, robbing them of cash, cellphones, and other valuables, have been sentenced to 20 years in prison each.
James Masunda (28) and Prosper Cephas Mushandu (26) were convicted of two counts of robbery by Regional Magistrate Bishad Chineka.
Prosecutor Liberty Hove told the court that on May 13, 2024, the duo, armed with a firearm and machete, stormed Varaidzo Zimhunga’s home in Tokwane Ngundu, threatening to kill her before making off with R53 000, US$20, and three cellphones.
Four days later, they struck again at Munyaradzi Madhende’s home in Tokwe Mukosi Resettlement, this time using a firearm, iron bar, and bolt cutter to steal various goods worth US$1 821.
The court heard that the accused persons used violence and threats to induce their victims to relinquish control of their property.
Magistrate Chineka, in passing sentence, noted that the accused persons had shown no remorse for their actions and had caused significant harm to their victims.
The recovered property, including cellphones, cash, and a motor vehicle used in the commission of the crime, were exhibited in court.
