The Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Ezra Chadzamira has revealed that Masvingo is ready to host the historic three in one celebrations at the iconic Great Zimbabwe Monuments on Sunday.

The celebrations will see the official launch of Munhumutapa Day, President Mnangagwa’s birthday and the rotational SADC chairmanship, Chadzamira told The Midweek Watch in an exclusive interview at his office on Friday.

“We are honored to host the historic launch of Munhumutapa Day and we are ready to welcome everyone from across the country.

“The venue is ready, transport to ferry people is on standby as we speak, this is an honor for Masvingo to host such an event and we want to make it memorable for everyone.

“We welcome our President Cde E.D. Mnangagwa and we will not disappoint, we want him to feel at home as much as possible. He has done a lot in the short period of time that he has been in office and we are happy about those achievements with the outstanding one being the rehabilitation of the Beitbridge Harare Highway,” said Chadzamira.

Munhumutapa Day is a conception of the Zanu PF Youth League as a way of honoring President Mnangagwa for spearheading infrastructure development in the country and honoring traditional leaders.

On the same day the President will also launch the Munhumutapa Housing Scheme at Victoria Ranch targeted at the youth.

“His Excellency will also launch the Munhumutapa Housing Scheme for the youth at Victoria Ranch and this will see 3000 youth getting residential stands. The scheme will be spread to all the country’s districts as a way of empowering the youths who are the custodians of the country’s future,” said Chadzamira.

Meanwhile, Masvingo City is a hive activities as people from all walks of life are gearing for the event which will include a gala at Nemamwa Grounds where the king of sungura, Alick Cheso Power Macheso and Ochestra Mberikwazvo will be part of the package for those who want to take to the dance floor.

Macheso is riding high on his newly released album, Kupa Kuturika, which is on everyone’s lips due to the way he strums the bass guitar with a dish towel where he calls one Maikoro, Maikoroooo, Mayiki.

At Nemamwa one old man was spotted practicing the popular borrowdale dance as he intends to impress the President at the event.

“I am preparing to awe the crowd come Sunday, I am ready for any dancing challenge,” said the nimble footed old man.

Vendors were busy setting their stalls at strategic positions as they want to reap the most on the day that is set to attract over 30 000 people from across the country.

Bars and grocery shops were busy stocking up in anticipation of booming business before and on the day.
