4 councilors sworn in

Gweru- The Gweru City Council has sworn in 4 new councillors, replacing the 4 councillors who were recalled by self imposed CCC secretary general, Sengezo Tshabangu.

The event was witnessed by residents and other stakeholders at the council chambers.

Some of the sworn in councillors include, Holly Dzuda, Violet Mutusva, Patience Mujere and Eustina Fidze, all under the proportional representation (PR). The four councillors replace, Siphiwe Kundiona, Mirriam Magaya, Ronah Masocha and Olivia Chakauya who were recalled by Tshabangu.

Speaking at the event, Alderman councillor, Trust Chineni said governance issues required dedication and commitment in order to grow the city.

“When one gets elected, one should leave politics behind and focus on serving the people.

“We wish our councillors to remain united and address service delivery issues, we have issues which affect women a lot, issues of water, refuse, so we hope now that we have a number of women these issues will be addressed,” he added

Gweru Mayor, Cllr Martin Chivhoko welcomed the new councillors and urged them to serve the community with dedication.

“Gweru is our home, we welcome our councilors and we hope that going forward will make Gweru a better home for all of us.

“Residents are our employers, we are here to  work together and serve them. Whatever problems you face we will work together and solve them to build our city.” Chivhoko said.

Cllr Dudza pledged to work tirelessly to address issues that affect women at local level.

Meanwhile, councillors Dzuda and Fidze have already been nominated to seat in the Audit and Business Committee, while Mutusva was nominated to seat in the Audit and Finance Committee with Mujere seating in the Audit and Human Resources.
