Zvish woman strangles newly born child to death

Police have confirmed an infanticide case where a 27 year old woman strangled her one day old baby and buried the body in her yard.

The incident occurred on 27 October 2024 at about 1900 hours, at Village Takaendesa under Chief Masunda in Zvishavane.

It’s alleged that on 02 November 2024 at about 1000 hours one Peterson Tauro, a male adult, of Tauro Village Chief Masunda, Zvishavane who is an uncle to the suspect Talent Sibanda of Village Takaendesa Chief Masunda, Zvishavane heard rumours that Talent was no longer pregnant.

He went to Sibanda and inquired. Sibanda then revealed to Tauro that she gave birth to a live baby girl on 27 October 2024, strangled the baby to death and buried the body in the yard.

Tauro is said to have reported the matter to the Police who attended the scene.

Midlands Provincial Police spokesperson, Inspector Enmanuel Mhoko says the suspect was arrested

“The body of the baby was exhumed by the Police and taken to Zvishavane District Hospital awaiting post-mortem. Sibanda was subsequently arrested.” he said.
