As the country gears up for the festive season, the Police in Masvingo Province has issued a stern warning to members of the public to be vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and security.

ZRP Masvingo Province spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa.

In a statement, Masvingo Province police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa urged the public to avoid using violence when resolving disputes, but instead opt for amicable means.

“The sanctity of life is matchless, and we urge members of the public to engage professional counsellors, traditional and other community leaders, church elders, or police whenever there are deadlocks in resolving issues,” said Dhewa.

Parents were also reminded to keep a close eye on their children, monitor behavior changes, and seek redress early.

“Festive holiday anxiety can tempt children to misuse drugs and substances, which can ruin their lives for good,” he added

The police also issued a warning against attempting to cross flooded rivers and other water bodies, and against swimming in the absence of life savers.

Liquor outlets were directed to adhere to opening and closing times as stipulated in their respective liquor licenses, and to refrain from selling liquor to persons below the age of 18 years.

The ZRP also reminded members of the public to ensure that their homesteads are secured when leaving for holidays, and to park their vehicles at designated overnight parking facilities.

Motorists were warned against carrying excess passengers and goods, and against picking up or dropping off passengers at undesignated points.

“Speed may thrill, but safety should prevail. Respect speed limits, and plan your journeys on time to avoid speeding,” the ZRP advised.

The police also warned against drinking and driving, and against using unauthorized passengers.

“Stay sober on the road, stay focused, and stay safe with your hands on the wheel, not on your phone,” the statement read.

The ZRP also urged members of the public to report any criminal activities or traffic violations to the Provincial Operations Landline number on 0392266778 or nearest police station.
