ZPCS in antidrugs abuse campaign through sport

MWENEZI-The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) Masvingo Province held a two-day sporting event in Mwenezi at Rutenga Primary School as part of fighting drugs and substance abuse.

 The Provincial Commanding Sports Gala saw prison officers competing in various sporting disciplines.

The event, organized under the theme “Correctional Inclusion through Sports – Generational Revive: Stop Drug and Substance Abuse,” brought excitement to the Rutenga community.

Priscilla Zindari Moyo, Mwenezi West legislator, commended ZPCS for taking the fight against drug and substance abuse to Mwenezi through sport.

“I would like to thank ZPCS for honoring Mwenezi District with this life-changing initiative. As a district, we are concerned about cases of drug and substance abuse, and we call upon our youth to stay away from drugs as this affects nation-building,” said Zindari Moyo.

ZPCS Officer Commanding Masvingo Province, Commissioner Nelson Chikwature, acknowledged the overwhelming response from the Mwenezi community.

 “As ZPCS, we appreciate the hospitality which has been extended to us as we join hands in fighting drugs and substance abuse, which pose a threat to the development of our communities. I urge you to shun dangerous drugs,” he said.

Provincial public relations officer, Stanslous Sanike, commended the level of competition displayed by the officers in the different disciplines.

“This year’s competitions were tough. Congratulations to the winning teams. Those who have failed to make it, remember it’s about the fight against drugs and substance abuse,” he said.

The overall winners of the competitions were Chiredzi, who showed a lot of determination despite losing to Mutimurefu in penalty shoot out after the match ended in a 2 all stalemate.

Mutimurefu also won the gold medal in netball, outclassing their opponents.

Makuni Dhongi, a correctional officer based at Mutimurefu, was awarded the gold medal for being the best entertainer.

The FC Wangu Mazodze chief supporter, who was wearing a unique pair of shoes with pointed tails, was a center of attraction.
