Young entrepreneurs miss out on business expo opportunities

MasvingoIn a recent statement released by the Masvingo Root of Development Organization (MaRODO), concerns have been raised regarding the lackluster participation of young entrepreneurs in the recently concluded Masvingo Business Expo, which was a game-changer for SMEs.

The Masvingo Business Expo, organized by the Office of the Minister of Provincial and Devolution Affairs, Masvingo, in collaboration with various stakeholders, was designed to provide a platform for emerging businesses to showcase their products and services.

Understanding the significance of this opportunity, MaRODO took the initiative to advocate for reduced exhibition fees for youth SMEs, successfully negotiating a waiver that saw the cost drop to just USD$20 from USD$100 per stand.

The Midweek Watch is in possession of the letter from MaRODO directed to the Permanent Secretary for Masvingo Provincial and Devolution Affairs and the organizing partners, asking for a waiver.

Despite these efforts, the organization expressed disappointment at the minimal turnout from the youth sector, with many young entrepreneurs failing to seize the opportunity presented to them.

“While we appreciate the support from government and private sector partners, it is disheartening to witness the youth not taking full advantage of the resources available to them,” said Acknowledge Mawere, the director for MaRODO.

The statement emphasized that while obstacles may exist, there is an urgent need for young entrepreneurs to actively participate in activities that can propel their businesses forward.

“We cannot afford to let this moment pass us by. The future of our economic landscape relies on the courage and creativity of our youth,” the statement read.

Local business leaders and economic experts have echoed MaRODO’s sentiments, highlighting the importance of fostering an entrepreneurial spirit among the younger generation. They argued that participation in significant events like the Business Expo is essential for networking, skills development, and gaining exposure to market trends.

“Opportunities such as these do not come often, and it is crucial that our youth embrace them,” said one local entrepreneur. “It’s time to step up and take charge of their future.”

As the community reflects on this missed opportunity, MaRODO remains committed to empowering young entrepreneurs and encouraging them to overcome barriers to participation in future events.

“We urge the youth to take this as a learning experience and to be ready for the next opportunity that arises,” the statement also read.

The Masvingo Business Expo served as a reminder that while support exists, the drive to succeed ultimately lies within the hands of the youth. The call to action from MaRODO resonates with the community, urging a collective effort to cultivate a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem in Masvingo.
