Masvingo West View College which is owned by prominent businessman, Philimon Mutangiri who runs arguably the best private school in the country, Riverton Academy, is situated along Bulawayo Road adjacent to Dhiyo Shops.

The private college has a capacity of 1 750 pupils but for a start they had planned to take only 150 form 1 and 2 students but due to overwhelming demand they have increased the intake to 300 including form 3s as well.

“Logically it is good not to start with examination classes hence we opted to take form 1 and 2 only but parents pleaded with us to take form 3s as well in view of our track record and we had bend over backwards to accommodate them. The reason why we don’t want exam classes from other schools is that, we want to maintain our high pass rate standards,” Mutangiri told The Midweek Watch.

He said they started construction of the school in 2022 and their target is to have all classes from ECD to form 6 in due course, with day and boarding students and a luxury coach has been acquired to ferry students from home to school on daily basis.

On April 1, 2022 Masvingo Rural District Council resolved to give Mutangiri the green light to start construction of the school upon payment of the mandatory unit tax which they did and started work on the ground.

“Members were informed that Mr Mutangiri wrote a letter to council informing the local authority of his intention to immensely contribute to the education system of the country by coming up with a new school for the diverse needs of the citizens of Zimbabwe.

”It was recommended that West View College be established at Plot number 9 Glynham by Mr P Mutangiri after clearing off his unit tax debt with council. Proposed by Cllr Gwinji  Seconded by Cllr Toruvanda,‘’ reads part of the minutes in our possession.

The school which is set be the biggest private college in the ancient city also got the green light from the Provincial Education Director and a recommendation letter was written to the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education permanent secretary to issue Masvingo West View College a registration certificate.
