MASVINGO-The Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) has urged motorists to exercise maximum caution on the roads to avoid loss of lives following the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road horrific accident which claimed 22 people recently.
In a press statement in the possession of The Midweek Watch, TSCZ expressed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of the passengers who passed on in the horrific crash on 14 November at the 27km peg along Bulawayo-Beitbridge Highway when a Toyota Quantum was involved in a head collision with a DAF Truck.
TCSZ went on to urge motorists to exercise caution especially when overtaking during the night to avoid errors which often result in head-on collisions.
“We advise motorists to undertake the proper overtaking drill as stipulated by the Highway code to ensure safety when ferrying passengers”.
“We also implore transport owners and operators to always employ drivers who possess driver’s license and valid defensive driving certificates”.
The statement went on to call upon all stakeholders to partner with TSCZ in ending road carnage on all roads since they have intensified road safety awareness campaigns intended to educate the public on the need to preserve the sanctity of human life by doing what is right when using the roads.
In the past three weeks the country recorded four fatal accidents including the one along Chiredzi Road which claimed 6 lives on the spot.
