Toyota Wish kills pupil (5)

MASVINGO- A Toyota Wish which was driven by Artwell Munamba (31) of Dzeromo Village, Bikita hit Junior Tivabarire (5) to death as he was coming from school at 1km peg along Nyika-Zaka Road on Monday, 20 May.

The deceased is from Chinobva Village in Bikita and his next of kin has been advised.

The incident was confirmed by the Masvingo Province ZRP spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa.

Munamba was driving his car facing North, towards Nyika with one passenger on board.

The driver was about to reach the 1km peg and at this point he hit Junior as he was coming from school crossing from the right to left side of the road.

The Midweek Watch was told that the juvenile sustained head injuries and a fractured left leg.

Immediately the driver rushed Junior to Nyika Clinic where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. His body was taken to Silveira Mission Hospital for postmortem.

Inspector Dhewa encouraged drivers not to overspeed and be cautious when driving in order to reduce such such incidences.

Meanwhile, in Ngundu under Chiwi-chabeture Village, Chivi, Tawedzerwa Chikamare (9) was bitten by an unidentified snake where was herding cattle on the 19th of May around 1200hrs.

After this happened the boy ran home to inform his father Crispen Chikamare (44) about his experience, a few minutes later he just collapsed producing white foam from his mouth.

Unfortunately, he died upon reaching Nyahombe Clinic.

Inspector Dhewa confirmed that postmortem was waved by Chivi Resident Magistrate Caroline Tafira.

The Police urged children to be careful when herding the cattle and be taught that if one is bitten by a snake he/she must sit down, running speeds up the blood circulation spreading the poison at a faster rate leading to sudden death.
