MASVINGO-In a move that could be interpreted as a sign of Zanu PF factionalism rearing its ugly head, senior Masvingo Province officials snubbed Minister Chadzamira’s Presidential award celebrations held at Urban Lifestyle Hotel last week Friday.
Only a few senior members led by Minister Chadzamira’s alleged strong ally Vice Chairman Trust Mugabe attended and they included, Provincial Secretary for Transport Muchafa, Retired General Gibson Mashingaidze, his close ally Chivi North MP Godfrey Huruva Mukungunugwa and Fainos Makwarimba.
Those who were conspicuous by their absence at the celebration which was also attended by The Midweek Watch were Agriculture Deputy Minister Davis Marapira, Provincial Chairperson Robson Mavhenyengwa, Information and publicity Provincial Secretary Pepukai Chiwewe, Politiburo members Pupurai Togarepi, Lovemore Matuke, Provincial Political Commissar Brian Munyoro, John Paradza, Provincial Youth Chairperson Mandebvu, just to mention a few.
A social science lecturer at Great Zimbabwe University who prayed for anonymity citing professional reasons said the snub was not unexpected as there are two camps in the ruling party always opposed to each other.
“The Masvingo Zanu PF provincial leadership is divided through the middle and at the moment the unity they show in public is fake, deep down they don’t see eye to eye. Some failed to attend due to genuine reasons, but the majority snubbed the event as they are not happy with Chadzamira’s closeness to President Mnangagwa, they see him as the President’s blue-eyed boy.
“The division that was created during the previous provincial elections is still there although it has been nuetralised by zviganandas who are pouring money and for one to eat, you have to appear loyal, yet deep inside they have their own preferences.
“So, basically zviganandas are keeping these deeply divided people together, all they want is to see Chadzamira failing so that he can be kicked out, they are not happy with the accolades he is getting,” said the respected lecturer.
He added that in Zaka there is serious infighting among senior party members with some baying for the District Coordinating Committee chairperson’s head, Clemence Chiduwa.
