The rise and rise of Mberengwa football


MBERENGWA – Football lovers in Mberengwa are in for big treat as more and more teams from the mining growth point are registering to compete in the ZIFA Midlands Province Division 2A league this coming season.

After Mbesa FC who were the first to join and Great Dyke FC last season and now Jame West FC have joined the fray and their target is to be the first team from Mberengwa to join the ZIFA Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

Jame West FC is a product of Jame West Mining Company, located in Mberengwa District 3km from Yorks Business Centre.  It is located and based in Honyobwe Village in Cloynmore Farm under Chief Bvute.

Jame West FC was established in March 2020 as a social football team to provide entertainment to mine workers and the community, It was established to allow the youths to focus on socializing through sports and desist from, drug abuse and other vices.

The Jame West FC executive is led Saddiq Madzipa  who is the Club’s Director with Conrad Madzipa as chairman.

Vincent Nguru is the head coach, ex Mbesa and Great Dyke Team manager Ashel Gutu is the assistant.

 Saddiq Madzipa, the Director of Jame West Fc reiterated the team is playing D2 football as they it is part of their mandate to nature talent.

“I recommended our team to join the Division 2 league under ZIFA as a way of naturing talent and exporting the rural talent to urban areas and import urban talent to rural areas.

“We joined Division 2  as a way of writing our own piece of football history in Mberengwa District.

 “It took us 4 years to join Division 2 because we wanted to build a strong team that will end the season at the top and proceed to the next level which is our main goal. Since 2020 when we established Jame West FC, we have managed to play a number of games across Mberengwa District and won a number of competitions,

“Last year December 2023 Jame West FC won a football jersey against Vanguard FC during a social soccer tournament which was hosted by MBESA in Mberengwa Education Ministry grounds.

“Jame West FC’s main goal is to nature talent from our community and when scouting we first consider our children from Mberengwa District and then Midlands as a whole, although we do not limit ourselves in the Province alone.

“Jame West FC which is  currently being funded by Jame West Mining Company and we welcome whoever is willing to sponsor or donate anything to the team,” he said.

Since its formation Jame West FC managed to hold a number of tournaments from different locations around Mberengwa. Jame West FC has played with teams from Matebeleland, Mberengwa and Zvishavane District,  Teams plying their trade in Division 1 league and never lost any of those games.

 They played against Gwanda’s Division 1, ZRP Amajunda FC and drew 1 all, also played against Mberengwa’s Division 1,  Buchwa FC and drew 1 all, making the strong contenders for honours in the coming season.
