HARARE: TEDX (Technology, Entertainment and Design) Borrowdale is set to hold its annual event where they invite people from all walks of life to share developmental ideas for the benefit of the nation.
The event will be held on July 29 at Celebration Centre Church in Borrowdale where they are inviting people with ideas worth sharing towards the development of the nation. TEDX’s main aim is to look at issues to do with Information and Communication Technology (ICT), global warming, social life and economic development.
TEDX Borrowdale finance and administration manager, Munjodzi Chida said they are seeking members with information they think is important towards the development of the nation in terms of ICT, Global warming, economic development as well as social life to attend the indaba.
‘‘We are looking for people with ideas worth sharing for the betterment of Zimbabwe. Looking at the education system, will it be still relevant in the near future considering the constant changes in the world?
“How are we re-imagining our future in terms of the education system, ICT, global warming, and economic development?
‘‘All this can be answered by relevant people with ideas, we create a platform for the engineer, educationist, scientists and those in sports who can develop talent,’’ said Chida.
He said those interested are to apply on their website and go through interviews and training. They also invite schools with items to showcase to apply.
‘‘If one wants to participate, they can apply on our website that is www.tedxborrowdale.co.zw, we will interview all the applicants and give them training if necessary. We get to audition the candidates but we would like to emphasize that we are not looking for motivational speakers we want real talent, people with tangible ideas for future.
‘‘We are looking for plays and acts from schools where they showcase talent. The schools with performance are free to apply and they present their talent. It is not a competition but it is a way to inspire children who have talent,’’ said Chida.
TEDX Borrowdale is an independently organised event licenced from TED in 2022. It is becoming the leading platform for propagation of Zimbabwean ideas, creativity and innovation to the rest of the world.
It started in USA and for one to be a member they have to register and get a licence to start operating under their rules and regulations.
Director/ Licensee for TEDX, Archiford Matarirano said the upcoming event will focus on four major key result areas which are innovation, performance, social change and discoveries.
‘‘This year’s ‘talk ideas’ include innovation where we are inviting inventions or ideas that can make a difference or perhaps something that most people are not aware of. As TEDX community we love these types of talks, we want to understand how the idea evolved and the challenges that you went through to bring such an idea.
‘‘In TEDX we had performances such as poetry, steel band, dancing, marimba and even hip-hop orchestra. These are not only captivating to watch but they bring life to the event.
‘‘We need people who have social change ideas in either their community or culture that will have a profound impact. You should ask yourself the reason that will make the audience appreciate you’re the information you would have shared with them.
‘‘Bring discoveries, what is it that you have discovered that is different and unique and thought provoking? You can discuss where you discovered it, why it is important, how your information can make a difference. Take us on the adventure with you,’’ said Matarirano.
This year’s theme, ‘Future Re-imagined in Zimbabwe’, Matarirano said that as humans live longer and as the pace of innovation continues unabated, a dynamic future lies ahead for the next generation. He interrogated the opportunities and possibilities that will come with future’s technological advancement for ordinary people and enterprises.
