MILLICENT HUNGWE
A dramatic scene unfolded along the Bulawayo-Plumtree Highway when Tanzanian national Sleiman Armour, 44, was apprehended by Zimbabwean authorities.
A staggering 192 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, worth nearly $1 million, cleverly concealed within a shipment of beans.
Armour, a crew member of a cross-border truck, was intercepted at a roadblock, where police requested him to open the locked truck trailer.
Inside, they found a lunchbox containing a suspicious white substance, later identified as crystal meth.
Further investigation revealed 168 additional lunchboxes hidden in a secret compartment.
Prosecutor Milton Moyo revealed in court that Armour had entered Zimbabwe from Mozambique via the Nyamapanda Border Post.
Preliminary tests confirmed the presence of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $987,000.
Armour’s case has been postponed to November 8 due to language barriers, with him remanded in custody.
