Tafadzwa Goredema (21) from Sisk in Mucheke lost his Honda Fit taxi to a conman.

According to Masvingo Province Police deputy spokesperson Masauso Patinyu Goredema parked his black Honda fit at Simrac at around 8pm, as he stepped out of the car, a man approached him with a proposal to hire his car to take a friend to Wimpy and then to Caravan Park.

Goredema agreed, and they set off towards Clipsham Views.

However, things took a dark turn when they arrived near the telephone booster, the accused asked Goredema to switch off the car, but he refused, sensing danger.

The accused then pulled out an okapi knife from his pocket and forced him to lie down.

He tied Goredema’s hands and legs with an electrical cable he found in the car.

The accused then took control of the car, driving along the Masvingo-Beitbridge road while Goredema lay helpless in the back.

Eventually, the stranger threw Goredema out of the car, before he went away with the car.

At around 2am on August 29 Goredema managed to free himself.

Assistant Inspector Patinyu urged motorists to be cautious when dealing with strangers and to verify the identity of individuals before engaging in any transactions or agreements.

The vehicle is yet to be recovered and the police is appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect.
