Sinomine Bikita Minerals beneficiation excites Mutodi

MIDWEEK REPORTER

BIKITA SOUTH-Masvingo Province Zanu PF deputy secretary for economic affairs, Givemore Mutodi was excited by the recent developments at arguably the biggest employer in the district, Sinomine Bikita Minerals Pvt Ltd.

The Chines owned miner recently commissioned a spodumene and palatine plant at its lithium mine in Bikita.

President Mnangagwa officially commissioned the plant which adds beneficiation to the lithium mined at Bikita Minerals in response to the Government’s call for mineral value addition.

Mutodi said the commissioning of the beneficiation plant is a positive move as it is part of his mandate as deputy secretary for economic affairs in the province.

“As the deputy secretary for economic affairs in the Province I am naturally excited with the development, this is the thrust of the Second Republic led by His Excellency President Mnangagwa where he says no one or no place will be left behind,” said Mutodi who coincidentally is from Bikita South.

Mutodi said they will implore the mining giant to do more for the community as they also chip in with some ideas and development projects for the ordinary person who has been marginalized for long time.

Spodumene from Bikita Minerals is a key mineral used in the ceramic industry, manufacture of mobile phones, laptops, digital cameras and automotive batteries.

Mutodi said they would like to see all companies in Masvingo Province which are mainly into mining to take the route of beneficiation for the betterment of the local communities.

“We have companies like Rio Tinto, DISCO which is taking lime from Chief Charumbira area to Manhize in Chivhu, Murowa Diamonds, Steelmakers just to mention a few to take a cue from Bikita Minerals in line with the Second Republic’s thrust,” added Mutodi.
