SHURUGWI – A 23-year-old man from Marira Village, under Chief Banga, Shurugwi, died after being stabbed during an altercation over a bluetooth speaker.

Pardon Vegai succumbed to his injuries two days later while admitted at Gweru Provincial Hospital, said Midlands Province police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.

The incident occurred on November 6, 2024, around 9:30pm at the Donga Bottle Store, where Pardon was drinking beer with Prince Vengai and Tawanda Siziba from the same village.

The three were listening to music from a bluetooth speaker owned by Pardon.

According to Insp Mahoko, a man identified as Tatenda, also known as “Boss Tate,” entered the bottle store and took the speaker.

Pardon followed Tatenda in an attempt to recover his speaker, but Tatenda, who remains at large, drew a knife and stabbed him once in the back as he tried to run away.

Pardon fell down bleeding and became unconscious.

He was taken to Zvamabande Hospital and then transferred to Shurugwi District Hospital before being moved to Gweru Provincial Hospital, where he died on November 8, 2024.

Insp Mahoko has appealed to the public for information on Tatenda’s whereabouts, urging anyone with relevant details to contact the nearest police station.
