SHURUGWI-In a shocking incident of savagery, a 23-year-old Shurugwi man is currently fighting for his life in the hospital after being brutally attacked with an axe.
The incident occurred in the early hours of July 6th, 2024, at around 4am in the former scenic mining town of Shurugwi.
According to police reports, the victim, Tinashe Denhere, was walking with a friend from a local bar to their workplace when they encountered three men identified as Nyasha, Wesly, and Mhizha.
An altercation ensued between the two groups, and one of the suspects, Wesly, who is also known as Sabhuku, pulled out a small axe from his waist and struck Denhere multiple times on the head.
The suspects then fled the scene, leaving Denhere lying in a pool of blood.
The matter was promptly reported to the police, and Denhere was rushed to the Shurugwi hospital for urgent medical attention, Midlands Province police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed.
Insp Mahoko said the incident has once again highlighted the need for peaceful conflict resolution in communities.
Adding that the police are currently investigating the matter and are appealing to the public to come forward with any information that could aid in the investigation and the apprehension of the suspects.
