Shock as Johanne Masowe girls bump on naked, crying infant in the bush

SHURUGWI-Two Johanne Masowe girls had the shock of their lives as they bumped on a naked baby who was crying near a disused pit in the bush while fetching water.

The juveniles who were at a church shrine had been sent to fetch water from a nearby well when they heard a baby crying and upon investigating, they discovered that it was a naked baby girl dumped near a disused pit.

The incident happened on 1 February 2024 at about 0700 hours at Surprise Mining area in Shurugwi.

Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident to The Midweek Watch.

“We are appealing to members of the public for information which can assist in locating the mother of the infant to approach any nearest police station,” said Mahoko.

Circumstances are that, two female juveniles, (17) and (11) were send from a Johanne Masowe church shrine to go and fetch water at a nearby pool.

While on the way, they heard a voice of a crying baby in a nearby bush.

 They went to check and discovered a naked infant lying near a disused mine pit with clothes scattered around her. They took the infant to the shrine and a report was made to the police.

Zimbabwe Republic Police Shurugwi attended the scene. The infant was taken to Shurugwi District Hospital for medical attention as investigations are in progress.
