The Foundation ECD Center at Rutenga Growth Point hosted a vibrant careers day event on July 19th, which was well-attended by parents and the local business community.
The event, held under the theme “Every Child is Differently Gifted,” showcased the diverse talents and aspirations of the young learners.
The audience was captivated by the students’ professional role-plays, which demonstrated their understanding of various occupations and their responsibilities.
One standout performance was the medical team’s portrayal of attending to a sick patient, showcasing the students’ impressive English language skills and the quality of education at the Foundation ECD Center.
Getrude Nyoni, the National Association of Primary School Heads (NAPH) Chairperson and the event’s Guest of Honor, commended the school for organizing the Careers Day.
“I would like to congratulate the parents, teachers, and administrators of Foundation ECD Center for this important event, which shapes the future of the learners,” Nyoni said. “As parents, it is our duty to nurture our children and not impose professions on them.”
The NAPH Chairperson also emphasized the importance of promoting skills-based professions, especially in the current climate of high unemployment.
“In this age where unemployment is high, it is important for us to produce learners who will work for themselves and create employment,” she said.
One of the highlights of the event was the participation of the girl-child in traditionally male-dominated professions, such as construction, as builders and engineers.
This defied gender stereotypes that have often marginalized women in certain fields. Similarly, men were also seen challenging gender stereotypes by showcasing their skills in professions typically associated with women, such as nursing and culinary arts.
The Foundation ECD Center, co-directed by Faith Baloyi Sibanda and Lovemore Gwayi, is registered and currently developing its site. As a gesture of support, the Guest of Honor, Getrude Nyoni, donated bags of cement to the school.
The Careers Day event at the Foundation ECD Center in Rutenga demonstrated the school’s commitment to fostering diversity, skill development, and empowering students to explore a wide range of career paths, regardless of gender stereotypes.
