MASVINGO-Rufaro Starlets Academy continued their steady rise in the Zimbabwe Women’s Premier Soccer League after producing a spirited second-half comeback to defeat CAPS United Royals 2-1 at Mucheke Stadium.
Coming into the encounter as underdogs on paper, Rufaro Starlets showed character and resilience to overcome a strong CAPS United Royals side and secure their second win of the season.

The visitors looked in control during the opening half and deservedly went into the break leading 1-0, leaving Rufaro Starlets with work to do in front of their home supporters.
But the second half told a different story.
Driven by determination and hunger for victory, Rufaro Starlets returned with greater intensity and physical presence, gradually taking control of the match.
Their persistence paid off when Hazel Kanyuru converted from the penalty spot to restore parity and breathe life into the hosts challenge.
With momentum now firmly on their side, Rufaro pushed for a winner and found it through captain Ropafadzo Maferefa, whose decisive strike completed the turnaround and sparked celebrations at Mucheke Stadium.
The victory lifts Rufaro Starlets Academy to tenth position on the league standings with nine points as they continue building momentum in their campaign.
Rufaro Starlets Academy team manager Kundai Maromo praised the players’ fighting spirit and second-half display.
“We are happy to win our second home game against CAPS United Royals. The players showed they are physically fit and outperformed CAPS players in the second half,” said Maromo.
“They came from behind and got an equaliser through a penalty converted by Hazel Kanyuru. The winning goal came from our captain Ropafadzo.”
Maromo added that confidence within the camp continues to grow ahead of their next fixture.
“There is morale in the camp and we now focus on our next game against Kwekwe Queens at home next week.”
For Rufaro Starlets, Sunday’s victory was not only about three points, it was another statement of belief and progress in their journey this season.
