Rocks back in action this weekend

Local cricket fans have their last chance of seeing top class cricket this year when Masvingo’s Southern Rocks play back to back one day games against the Matabeleland Tuskers at Masvingo Sports Club this Friday and again on Sunday.

Both teams have registered only one win in the Pro 50 championship.   The Mashonaland Eagles are currently unbeaten and have virtually secured a spot in the finals leaving the other four teams, hoping for a finals berth, needing to win their all their remaining fixtures.

The Tuskers; Mountaineers and Rocks have each won only won championship game and will be hoping that it is the Midwest Rhinos, currently sitting comfortably in second spot on the table, who will stumble in the remaining fixtures.

The Rhinos are at home this weekend to the Eagles in what will be a top of the table clash.

The Tuskers registered their first win of the tournament edging out the Rhinos last Sunday in Bulawayo by just three runs.   The Rocks sole win was two weeks ago when they easily beat the Mountaineers in their first match at Masvingo Sports Club only to lose the return fixture two days later.

The Tuskers are likely to be led by former Zimbabwe skipper Sean Williams with other big names being Brian Chari; Clive Madande and Milton Shumba.    The Rocks will be led by former Zimbabwe wicket keeper Richmond Mutumbami and are likely to have in their line up exciting talent such as William Mashinge; Tendai Chisoro and Johnathan Campbell who is the son of former Zimbabwe captain Alistair Campbell.

The Rocks have secured corporate sponsorship for a man of the match award and the ground should be a colourful sight with advertising hoardings and corporate tents.   With entrance to the ground being free the Rocks will hope for a good crowd to come and support the team.
