MASVINGO- Agitated controversial Masvingo self styled prophet Isaac Makomichi has again reignited political speculation after his audio circulated on social media platforms attacking President Mnangagwa’s government for failing to solve the current economic meltdown in the country.

Makomichi who is angry following his dismissal from the Zanu-PF party where he was a district political commissar (PC) said he was worried that the country has vast mineral resources and mining activities are everywhere across the country whilst people are living in abject poverty.
“Botswana has one or two minerals but it is rich. Zimbabwe has vast mineral resources and mining activities are everywhere across the country but we are poor.
“Companies are closing and pensioners are getting just nothing. It is because of failed leadership which do not have tangible policies.
“We want a leader who unites people. Someone who brings good policies on the ground. President Mnangagwa like Nelson Chamisa and Vice President Constantino Chiwenga are all against corruption including a few ministers,” he said.
He further stressed that Chiwenga’s humility makes him a good leader despite enemies attempting to block his path to power.
“Many people like VP Chiwenga because he want us to be united regardless of political persuasions.
“This does not mean people want to remove President Mnangagwa from the presidency but we are saying he should takeover after President Mnangagwa has retired maybe in 2028 or 2030. Chiwenga should takeover because as it stands, he wants to unite people across the political divide.
“I felt attacked when I heard Mutsvangwa’s voice attacking VP Chiwenga for failing to pronounce letters ‘L and R’ because I also have a relative who makes the same pronouncements. This has nothing to do with one’s educational background,” he said.
Preaching at an interdenominational prayer group in Beitbridge in September 2024, Makomichi claimed that Chiwenga would one day lead the nation, but only with Mnangagwa’s blessings.
His prophecy comes amidst growing rift between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga who have been embroiled in a quiet but escalating power struggle since the 2017 coup that ousted former president Robert Mugabe.
The long-standing rivalry between the two leaders, once united in overthrowing Mugabe, now threatens to fracture the party, with signs of an intensifying struggle for control.
Mnangagwa’s camp is calling for an extended presidential term which goes beyond 2030, while Chiwenga’s faction wants him to step down in 2028 when his constitutionally permissible presidential term ends.
Some Zanu-PF members including war veterans are calling for President Mnangagwa to step down citing his failure to address the current economic crisis.
