ZAKA-Pecom Academy, a local private school located in the heart of Zaka at Jerera Growth Point, recorded impressive A level 2023 ZIMSEC results.
Pecom Academy had an excellent performance in 2023 A’ Level results with an 87.3% pass rate from those who sat for the ZIMSEC final exams.
In 2022 the school posted 86% pass rate.
Officials at Pecom Academy told The Midweek Watch that plans are afoot to introduce science and ICT subjects at A’ Level as part of its long-term vision of being the epicenter of technology in Zaka district.
The academy had 100% pass rate on 5 subjects namely Sociology with 4 pupils obtaining 2As and 2Bs, Family and Religious Studies, 3 pupils obtained 2Bs and 1C both subjects are being taught by Joe Manyurureni one of the versatile teachers at the college.
The school also had pupils excelling in Shona, History and Geography subjects
Pecom Academy was established on 1 June 2012 with only one student and from the above statistics it shows growth of the school from strength to strength.
The academy currently has 7 qualified teachers, 2 student teachers and 3 supporting staff who are in charge of at least 153 pupils enrolled at the school.
Sarah Munemo the Principal said the school once faced challenges which slowed down its growth trajectory but the authorities managed to pick up broken pieces and moved on.
“On the 5th of November 2019 the school was burnt to ashes forcing the enrolment of the school to drop from 160 to 19, and we were forced to relocate to a new site in March 2020 and again we were forced to close due to Covid 19, but today we have 153 pupils enrolled at the school,”
“Our main challenge at the moment is lack of land to build a bigger school of the Art Educational Sector with an average enrolment of around 350 students,” she said.
The Local authority in Jerera, Zaka where the Academy is located is allegedly dragging its feet in allocating land for the academy to construct permanent school structures, despite the institution being one of the best schools offering quality education at the sprawling Growth Point.
