Online dating-woman raped, dumped

HARARE- A 28-year-old woman from Dzivarasekwa Extension, Harare has been raped at a lodge after being lured by a man through an online dating site.

National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi warned the public to avoid online dating with strangers after an incident of rape that occurred at a lodge in Mabelreign, Harare.

“The ZRP (Zimbabwe Republic Police) urges the public not to engage in online dating with strangers. This follows an incident which occurred on 22/06/25 in which a female adult (28) was lured to a lodge in Mabelreign by a male suspect.

“The suspect raped the victim before dumping her near Madokero Service Station,” said Nyathi in a statement.

In an unrelated incident, the ZRP is appealing to anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of a person who dumped a six month male baby at Balancing Rocks in Epworth.

“Police in Epworth are investigating a case of baby dumping which occurred on 24/06/24 in which the body of a male infant (approximately 6 months) was found at Balancing Rocks, Epworth Extension, Harare.”
