MIDWEEK REPORTER
MASVINGO-National Progressive Democrats leader, Togara Fambi has been released from police custody following a hearing at Masvingo ZRP headquarters and will appear in court on May 21 to answer to charges of cyberbullying.
Fambi had just concluded a hearing over allegations of engaging in political activities while still serving as a police officer when the situation took a dramatic turn as he was rearrested while walking out of the charge office.
He was reportedly apprehended at the door by officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
According to the party’s Secretary for Defence and Security, Moses Mukwesha, the arrest stemmed from a cyber bullying complaint filed against Fambi.
The complaint allegedly arose after Fambi contacted a police officer whom he accused of sending individuals to his home to harass his family.
The individuals are said to have attempted to force his 16-year-old daughter to sign a warrant of arrest, threatening to take her away when she refused.
Angered by the incident, Fambi reportedly called the officer, which then led to the cyber bullying allegations being filed with CID.
Sources told The Midweek Watch that investigators are still seeking proof of any offence, with indications that the alleged crime may not be clearly defined under the Cyber and Data Protection (Chapter 12:07) Act.
