GUTUResania Mafuta (44) of Village Makuvise under Chief Nyamandi in Gutu is in police custody after beating Richard Risina (65) to death.

Masvingo Provincial Police acting spokesperson, Lorine Chanakira-Ndlovu confirmed the incident to The Midweek Watch.

Ndlovu said that the incident happened on the 18th of November, (2023) last Saturday at around 6 pm.

It is alleged that on the same day at around 2 pm, Risina’s cattle were grazing on Mafuta’s land without his consent and they had a misunderstanding over the grazing land.

After the argument, Risina’s wife Sylvia Muromba (35) went to collect the cattle in the evening and upon arrival, Mafuta chased her away and ran after her until she reached Mudzamiri business centre where her husband was and told him about the ordeal.

Risina took his wife back and headed straight to where their cattle were and met Mafuta who was waiting for them and a war of words ensued. This led Mafuta to hit Risina with kicks and blows all over his body until he fell.

Mafuta left them in his field and the two headed home.

Upon reaching their homestead Risina started having difficulties breathing and around 7.30 pm the situation worsened. He was rushed to Gutu Mission Hospital where he was admitted in a serious condition and at around 8 pm he was pronounced dead.

A report was made at ZRP Gutu and the accused was arrested.

Ndlovu urged the community always to seek mediation from a third party when they are having difficulties resolving their issues to avoid unnecessary loss of life.
