MASVINGO CITY- A record 202 donors were bled on Friday 5 January 2024, as the maiden partnership between Redan Petroleum and the National Blood Service Zimbabwe (NBSZ) Masvingo branch paid off.
Redam donated 5 litres of fuel to both first time and regular donors on the day to boost the blood blank which is heavily depleted due to the festive season which is characterized by increased road traffic accidents.
In Masvingo, the outreach was carried out at the newly built Redan Petroleum in Pangolin, Mucheke.
Masvingo Branch Planning and Recruitment, Manager Micheal Chakoma was upbeat over the success of the program.
Chakoma said this the first time they have collected such a high number from donors as a branch.
” I am very excited over the turn out of donors, the response was very positive and we managed to have 202 people who donated blood on the day.
“This was the first time for Masvingo branch to be part of this partnership and we anticipate that the number of donors new and old will continue to increase as we continue with this partnership,” Chakoma told The Midweek Watch.
Although the partnership is new in Masvingo, Harare, Bulawayo and Mutare, the program is in its second year running.
Earlier on the NBSZ had sent out an SOS for the critical blood group O which is in short supply due to high demand as it can be used by all patients in need of the precious liquid.
NBSZ chief executive officer, Lucy Marowa has on an all out war on all media platforms urging donors to come forward and donate blood especially blood group O which is in short supply.
