Mwenezi juvenile nabbed for murder

MWENEZI- A boy (16) from Mwenezi together with his 22 year old friend found themselves in soup after fatally stabbing a man (27) with a knife following a misunderstanding over spiritual matters.

The male juvenile and his friend Kenneth Maurukuto  both from Village 5, Mazungunye, were arrested for murder on January 19 after Polite Manduku from Village 2 Santiza all under Chief Maranda died from stab wounds on his way to Neshuro Hospital.

Masvingo provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the matter to the Midweek Watch Newspaper and advised people to solve their issues amicably without resorting to using weapons.

“Investigations are still in progress however, we continue to advise people to solve their issues amicably without resorting to using weapons,” said Dhewa.

On January 17 at around 5pm, the deceased and his young brother, Evans Chomupapa (25) was at Velkom market place in Mwenezi under Chief Maranda when he sought spiritual help from Maurukuto a self styled.

Maurukuto told the deceased to come to his shrine if he needed any help saying the market place was inconvenient for such activities.

The deceased insisted that the deceased should help him at the market place and a fight arose between them.

The juvenile joined the fight and stabbed the deceased with a knife on the inner thigh using a knife.

He started bleeding profusely and the two accused fled from the scene.

Maurukuto’s nephew Sifelani Chiridza from Village 7, Bubi Range under Chief Maranda arrived at the scene and took his uncle to Bubi Clinic.

He was treated and referred to Neshuro Hospital for further treatment.

 At around 7pm, Chiridza and the deceased’s young brother took Manduku to the Village head, Anderson Matorokisi of Village 2 Santiza with an intention to report the matter before taking him to the hospital as instructed.

On arrival at the village head’s homestead Manduku died.

On January19 at around 10am the case was reported to the police.

A search for the accused was carried out leading to the arrest of the two alleged killers.

The police also recovered the knife which was used to stab the deceased.
