-Bishop Mutendi to grace event

Masvingo- Zion Christian Church run Mutendi High School in Masvingo Rural has clocked 40 years of providing quality education to the nation.
To mark the important milestone the school has organised massive celebrations to be held this Saturday at the institution which will be attended by the who is who in the education sector in Masvingo Province and beyond.

ZCC leader Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi will also grace the important event on the school’s calendar including the business community, heads and officials from over 24 sister schools and other surrounding schools.
Mutendi High School was established in 1984 by Bishop Mutendi as part of his vision to provide quality education for the nation.
Mutendi head, Charity Mutendi, shared the institution’s inspiring story with The Midweek Watch during a visit at the school on Monday.

“Bishop Mutendi’s vision was inspired by his late father’s unrealized ambitions during the colonial era, despite facing setbacks, including the destruction of schools by colonial regime, the Bishop persevered to create a legacy of educational excellence,” said Mutendi.
“From its inception with 150 students and a single block of six classrooms, Mutendi High School has expanded significantly.
“The O-level class was started in January 1984, followed by the A-level class in 1986.
“A resource unit catering to visually impaired students was introduced in 1989 and has since expanded to support multiple disabilities,” she said.

The pioneer head of the church run institution was Ranganai Ruguva who served from 1984 to 1986 and Mr Matenga took over until 1987 when Mr S. Chabata until 1998.
There were two heads who served in 1998, Mr Gumbo and Mr Marimbire.
Sanctions Mutendi, the longest serving head took over in 1998 until 2017 when he left to join Centenary Academy.

Currently, the school boasts of over 1 270 students, with 676 girls and 594 boys. Its academic performance has consistently improved, with pass rate rising above 50% over the past 15 years. The school’s strength in baseball has earned it championship titles at national level every year.
The school does not discriminate on the basis of creed, religion and background when enrolling students.

Mutendi High takes in students from any school across the country and do not put much emphasis on academic prowess of the learners at grade 7.
