Muggings worry Masvingo residents

MASVINGO CITY- Mugging  of people walking in bushy areas around the city are on in the increase in Masvingo with a 31 year old man currently battling for his life after he was struck with a sharp object on the forehead for failing  to surrender his belongings to a thief  at Mudhefu Dhefu bridge in Mucheke A recently.

 Benjamin Masocha (31) who stays in Victoria Range was assaulted on 10 April around 0600hrs in the morning, The Midweek Watch heard.

Masvingo Province Spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident.

He said an unknown person followed Masocha from behind, as he was coming from Town on his way to Mucheke high density suburbs.

Inspector Dhewa said upon arrival at Mudhefudhefu bridge the suspected thief demanded cash from Masocha and he failed to produce the money resulting in the suspected thief assaulting him with an unknown sharp object on the forehead.

Masocha sustained a deep cut on the forehead and was rushed to Masvingo General Hospital for treatment.

Inspector Dhewa said investigations are still underway to  apprehend the criminal, and appealed to the public if there is anyone with information which may lead to the identification and arrest of the suspect to immediately report to the nearest Police Station.
