MUTARE-Manicaland Province police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka is calling upon the public not to leave minors playing around water bodies as this often lead to drownings.
The call follows the drowning of a 1 year four months old baby drown in an open well at her homestead at 30 Miles.
Memory Sithole (19) and Alistar Mushanga from Tutsai Village under Chief Zimunya lost the baby girl, Mikeila Mashanga who fell in an open well which is approximately 15 meters deep and drowned on Sunday, April 14.
Chinyoka told The Midweek Watch that, on Sunday at around 10 am, Memory Sithole was in her kitchen
hut whilst her baby was playing with her niece aged 8(name withheld) adjacent to the garden is near their homestead.
It is alleged that Memory heard her niece screaming and went outside to check what had happened and was informed that Mikeila had fallen in the well.
Memory rushed to her neighbor Edson Zhovha and informed him about the incident since her husband was in Masvingo.
They retrieved the body with the help of the villagers and they informed the police via a telephone call at Z.R.P Murimo Post(30 miles) who attended to the scene.
The police observed the body of the deceased and no injuries were found or foul play suspected. The body was taken to Victoria Chitepo Hospital for postmortem.
