MASVINGO – The Roman Catholic Church Diocese of Masvingo has raised US$10 536 following a fundraising golf tournament held over the weekend at Masvingo Golf Club.

The fundraising tournament brought together golfers, business people, ordinary people, and well-wishers in support of improving healthcare services across diocesan hospitals and clinics.

A total of 52 golfers participated in the charity tournament, organised by health advocates and the Diocese to mobilise resources for the refurbishment of hospital wards and the procurement of modern medical equipment.

Bishop Raymond T. Mupandasekwa of the Catholic Diocese of Masvingo was among the participants with the tournament being won by Moses Muputa.

Speaking to The Midweek Watch, Masvingo Diocese Health Coordinator Sr. Florence Tengerayi said the initiative aimed to enhance conditions at mission hospitals and clinics to ensure better healthcare delivery for communities.

“Our target was to raise US$50 000 for the renovation of wards and the purchasing of modern equipment for diocesan hospitals and clinics. We are grateful that we managed to raise US$10 536 through the tournament,” Sr. Tengerayi said.

She noted that although the target has not yet been reached, the amount raised will go a long way in supporting ongoing efforts across mission health facilities.

“The response from golfers, sponsors and various stakeholders was very encouraging. It shows that people value the work being done by mission hospitals and clinics and are willing to contribute towards improving healthcare services for the ordinary citizens,” she said, adding that fundraising efforts are still ongoing.

The tournament also provided an opportunity for networking and community engagement as participants rallied behind a shared goal of strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the province.

Mission hospitals continue to play a critical role in delivering healthcare particularly in rural areas where access to modern medical facilities remains limited.
