MASVINGO-The court case pitting the wealthy family of the late transport mogul, Tanda ‘Mhunga’ Tavarura family’s against their executor Bishop Jeremiah Matenhese has further been postponed for the umpteenth time.
Bishop Matenhese who was reported by the Tavaruva family for allegedly forging signatures of the estate was set to appear in court on May 7, but the matter was further postponed to May 26.
The family claims the alleged fraud led to beneficiaries losing valuable property, including prime land worth millions of dollars, that belonged to their late father’s estate.
Bishop Matenhese was arrested in Mutare last month before appearing at the Masvingo Magistrates Court. However, the matter was postponed without proceedings taking place as the prosecution said it was the same case that was before the courts.
The case was scheduled for hearing on May 7 but was further postponed to May 26 after no court sitting was held.
Speaking in a telephone interview with The Midweek Watch, one of the beneficiaries, Shamiso Tavarura, expressed frustration over the delays.
“Since 2022, no court sitting has been done since we reported the matter,” said Shamiso.
“All we want is justice. The trial keeps being postponed from one date to another. It’s now almost four year’s. It’s just very unfair.”
The family maintains that they are seeking justice and closure over the disputed estate matter. The Tavarura family is represented by Tanda Tavaruva Estate, assisted by Tichawana Nyahuma of Nyahuma’s Law, Golden Stairs Chambers, Harare.
Bishop Jeremiah Matenhese is represented by Advocate Musindo Hungwe.
Matenhese aslo expressed frustration over the delays when contacted by The Midweek Watch.
“The delays are causing me serious emotional pains, and as you know, it’s very difficult to live normally with such serious criminal allegations over your head. It has cost me my image as a professional administrator. I am praying that I will be able to go through this whole thing soon and that the world will know the truth.”
