Mr and Miss Disability a huge success

MASVINGO – Vimbai Chese the youthful Ambassador of Young People with Disability and also a member of Chosen Generation Association has commended the huge turnout at the second edition of Mr and Miss Disability as it was represented by all districts from Masvingo.
The pageant was running under the theme ‘The beauty and brains beyond disability’ and was held at Masvingo Polytechnical College recently.
“This second edition of Mr and Miss Disability was a success because we saw an increase in participation from different districts in the province, a sign that people are embracing the idea,” said Chese.
“The main thrust for this pageant is to encourage our peers living with disability to have confidence in whatever they do and to bring out their talents since many of them are in hiding shunning activities done by able bodied people because they are afraid of being stigmatized,”
This pageant was on a sabbatical since 2020 due to COVID-19 and only resumed this year.
Deltrish Muzvaba from Masvingo Urban went home with the Miss Disability crown and won a hamper alongside Simbarashe Mandishona from Chivi District who was crowned Mr Disability and also won a hamper for her efforts.
The hampers were by Euphrasia Muvengwa-Chadzamira the wife of Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Ezra Chadzamira who was the guest of honour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Clemence Chiduwa’s wife, Fungai Chiduwa.
Masvingo businesswoman, Regina Munyamani told The Midweek Watch that she was glad this pageant was held this year after being absent for three years because of COVID-19.
Munyamani added that it was good to see disabled children being happy and able to freely express themselves.
“I am quite happy with this initiative of trying to promote disabled children because most of the activities that are done by the able bodied persons they are not even considered like modelling so by this event we were trying to encourage them and boost their confidence to participate in every activity they wish to partake in,” said Munyamani.
She went on to express that disabled children still need a lot of attention and help especially from the business community in Masvingo so that they get capacitated in every way without leaving them behind.
Chese gave special mention to their main sponsors of the event who were Minister Chadzamira, Chevron Hotel, Masvingo Polytechnic, Eddrovale College, Denvalene, Hwata Logistics, Ginex Events and Mr Fun Cargo among others.
