-as father troops back to ruling party

Masvingo – In a striking display of political resolve, youthful opposition leader Moses Mavhaire has publicly declared his commitment to the opposition, despite his father, veteran politician Dzikamai Mavhaire, recently defecting to the ruling Zanu PF party.
This decision has stirred controversy within political circles, particularly amongst critics who believe that the elder Mavhaire’s move reinforces the concerns voiced by Nelson Chamisa, the former president of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), regarding potential Zanu PF infiltration within the opposition party.
Dzikamai Mavhaire, alongside other notable figures including Oliver Chirume and Tawanda Lawrence Mavhaire, were officially welcomed into Zanu PF by President Mnangagwa during a ceremony held at State House.
The event saw the presence of influential Zanu PF members, including Masvingo State for Masvingo Provincial Minister of State Ezra Chadzamira and Zanu PF party provincial chairperson Rabson Mavhenyengwa.
Advocate Moses Mavhaire, who was the CCC’s candidate for the Masvingo Central in the 2023 harmonized elections told The Midweek Watch that his father’s political shift will not deter his aspirations to serve the community as an opposition legislator.
“I am committed to the community work that I have been doing in the constituency, and I will forge ahead with my plans to assist the community,” he said.
“My father’s decision to join Zanu PF does not redefine my political identity. I am my own man, and he is his own man. When it comes to making political decisions, I stand firm in my beliefs,” he said.
He added that he has never been a member of the ruling party despite the fact that his father has been a senior member of the ruling party and has also been a cabinet minister and governor.
Since his loss in the recent elections, Moses Mavhaire has remained active in community initiatives, focusing on supporting the youth, elderly, and school children within his constituency.
Sympathisers said Mavhaire’s determination to remain a visible and proactive leader showcases his dedication to the electorate, even in the face of family political divergence.
