MIDLANDS – Newboys, Black Eagles are set to face the formidable army side, Tongogara FC in their first encounter marking the beginning of the lucrative Ruvimbo Funeral sponsored central region division 1 league.
The army side is known for their resilience and tenacity on the pitch, but the Eagles are determined to prove themselves in this highly-anticipated opener which will be played at Tongogara stadium in Kwekwe this weekend.
The derby has been dubbed the battle of the armed forces as Black Eagles a Zimbabwe Republic police support unit team affectionately known as the black boots side and based in Buchwa face Tongogara FC a zimbabwe national army side.
Black Eagles ran riot in ZIFA Midlands Province Division 2A league last season and earned their promotion meanwhile Tongo were runners up in the league last season to eventual winners TelOne Fc and they only had one defeat in their name.
Black Eagles team Manager Wilbert Zveshure told the Midweek Watch that the team is ready to upset the army side in the opening encounter.
“We are ready especially starting with such an acid test,moreso away from our backyard.I think the first 3 games are going to be tough if anything goes by history but the guys are braced for the fierce battles”, he said.
After Tongogara, Eagles will be in the comfort of their home turf at Simbi stadium as they battle with Blanket Mine FC before travelling to Chapungu United in their third match .
