Mentally ill bludgeons patron (66) to death

CHIKOMBEDZI-A suspected mentally ill man has been arrested for allegedly killing an elderly patron at Level Cross Business Centre in Chikombedzi.

National Police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi.

Daniel Chifamba (32) of Munyuki Village under Chief Mupapa in Chikombedzi was arrested for brutally killing Meke Kuza (66) from the same area.

 ZRP national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi told The Midweek Watch that Chifamba who is suspected to be mentally unstable bludgeoned Kuza on the head several times with a knobkerrie and died on the spot.

   Commissioner Nyathi said on December1, 2024 at around 10am Chifamba approached Meke at Level Cross Business Centre who was in the company of a friend and started beating up other patrons.

Kuza asked Chifamba why he was always fighting people who had not provoked him.

Chifamba went on to grab a knobkerrie from a patron and hit Kuza’s friend who collapsed at once.

Kuza tried to intervene and advised his friend to run away, Chifamba turned on the victim and clubbed him until he collapsed but went on to hit his head and left him unconscious.

Chifamba grabbed Kuza’s bicycle and cellphone and disappeared from the scene.

Other patrons tried to resuscitate Kuza but he had already died.

A report was made to the police leading to the arrest of Chifamba who was found with the deceased’s bicycle and cellphone.

Kuza’s body was taken to Chiredzi Hospital for postmortem.
