Masvingo Teachers’ Gango walks tall at Chibuku Neshamwari finals

MASVINGO – Masvingo Teachers College are this year’s Delta Beverages Chibuku Neshamwari traditional dance provincial winners.

The group which goes by stage name Gango outclassed 9 other participants to walk away with US$2 500 prize money and a ticket to represent Masvingo province at the national finals on July 27, at Mucheke Stadium, Masvingo.

Dzimbabzamabwe Cultural Dance Troupe from Nemamwa in Masvingo Rural came second and for their efforts they received US$1 500 while Musa from Masvingo City came third and pocketed US$1 000.

The other seven competing groups received US$500 consolation prizes each.

This year’s competition is running under the theme: Tamba Tione, Gida Sibone!

Chibuku NeShamwari is sponsored by Delta Corporation through its Chibuku brand and organized by Zimbabwe National Arts Council (NAC) and Zimbabwe National Traditional Dances Association (ZNTDA).
The festival which was held at Hwiru council bar at Mpandawana, Gutu was attended by NACZ Director Napoleon Nyanhi, ZNTDA president Kennedy Kachuruka, as well as Delta officials.

 Gango which comprises 11 female and four male dancers charmed the judges with their Mbakumba performance much to the delight of fans and officials.

Mbakumba is a thanksgiving dance after a bumper harvest.

The group’s trainer and lecturer Molly Chirume said they are elated to have won the provincial competition and will up their act for the national championships.

She added that it was not a walk in the park for them to emerge the winners as they faced stiff competition from other outfits and paid tribute to her group for their hard work in the run up to the provincial finals.
“We are proud to have won the competition. We gave it our all and we will polish our act for the national event. I am certain that we win the first prize come national finals,” she said .
