CHIREDZI- Tafadzwa Zuweni (30) has been arrested for a string of robberies where he allegedly stole money and cellphones from 10 different victims.
Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the arrest to the Midweek Watch.
Dhewa said the spate of robberies happened in the period between 27 March to 09 June 2024.
According to the police, on 27 March at 08.30am along Prayer Road in Chiredzi the robber snatched a cellphone worth US$80 and ran away. In a similar incident on 26 April at 0330 hours at Rockman Night Club he smuggled a Huawei cellphone valued US$70.
On 14 May at around 0300hours near Club 28 in Chiredzi Zuweni allegedly used a knife to threaten a person and took a phone valued at US$130.
Dhewa also confirmed that in another incident on 18 May at around 2000 hours the accused used the same modus operandi to grab a satchel which had US$60 and he also stole US$79 at Club 28 and escaped.
On 8 and 9 June he stole a Huawei cellphone, US$30, R150 and ran away.
The police were able to track him down and apprehend him, recovering some stolen items in the process. The suspect is facing multiple charges of robbery, theft and assault.
