Mashava dumpsite explosion kills woman
MIDWEEK REPORTER
MASHAVA MINING VILLAGE-The small mining village of King Mine in Mashava has been plunged into mourning when a woman died following a blast at a homestead dumpsite.
The sad incident happened last Saturday at around 8pm when the late Gladmore Nyambi (24) lit up a dumpsite at the homestead leading to a bolt of fire erupting.
A neighbor, Makaita Chingoma (26) who witnessed the incident told the police that soon after the dumpsite caught fire there was a loud blast which caused extensive damage to neighbouring houses and Nyambi’s house while injuring her.
The blast was so huge such that villagers gathered at the scene to catch a glimpse of the incident.
Masvingo police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa told The Midweek Watch that Gladmore sustained head injuries and was rushed to Masvingo Provincial Hospital but was transferred to Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
A report was made to the police at Mashava by Miriro Nyambi (69).
“Investigations are still going on to ascertain the cause of the blast at the dumpsite,” said Dhewa.
Sources told this publication that Gladmore was set to graduate this year at Great Zimbabwe University where she was studying for an undergraduate degree.
Mourners are gathered in Chivi under Chief Madyangove.
