MaRODO fights drug abuse through music

MASVINGO – Masvingo Root of Development Organisation Trust (MaRODO) in partnership with the Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation, Zimbabwe Performing Arts for Schools Trust (ZIMPAST) and My Age Zimbabwe are calling for underground talented artists to participate in music advocacy in view of rising drug and substance abuse and gender based violence issues in Zimbabwe.
The auditions for the talented underground artists were held last Saturday, at Old Mucheke Hall from 9am to 12pm.
MaRODO representative, Acknowledge Mawere told The Midweek Watch that the main purpose of the program was to give an opportunity to talented underground artists under their “Gender EduTain Project” to empower them to become socialprenuers to fight Drug and Substance Abuse and Gender Based Violence (GBV).
“The main purpose of this program is to empower grassroots artists to become socialprenuers by utilizing their talents for purpose of fighting Drug and Substance Abuse and Gender Based Violence,” said Mawere.
“Advocacy is a rising career in this modern world where day to day problems and social ills are addressed through advocacy therefore this program is going to help facilitate the dissemination of information through music from the grassroot level in our communities articulating the topical issues of GBV and Drug and Substance Abuse”.
He added that those who would be selected will get recording contracts and will also be featured on air and print media so that the public get to appreciate their music.
“The selected artists are going to go through a capacity strengthening program where they are going to be taught about music advocacy, music composition and writing and after that they are going to have a contract where by they are going to be recording their music for free and get exposure through various radio stations featuring on their shows and local newspapers,” said Mawere.
